Timothy O. Osborne Bio

Timothy O. Osborne, was born in 1944 in California, USA.  He first went to Africa in 1967 and fell in love with the people and wildlife.  Tim returned to California to complete his Master’s Degree at Humbolt State University where he met his wife Laurel.   She was equally enthusiastic about adventure and joined Tim as he returned to Africa to become a wildlife biologist in Zambia.  They returned to the US in 1976 and moved to Alaska.  He worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for the fisheries division in Kodiak and Petersburg before moving to Galena joining the wildlife division as the area biologist.  Tim spent 17 years in Galena where he did everything from jump out of helicopters radio collaring moose calves to diving into bear dens.   He returned to Southern Africa several times during the early 1980’s.  He first visited Namibia and the Etosha National Park as a tourist in 1985 and was fascinated by the country especially the park.  He returned to Namibia in January 1993 to assist in a study of the black backed jackal in Etosha.  In 1997 he retired from Alaska and moved to Namibia to study the life history of the Kori bustard in the park.  He has also studied Tawny eagles, vultures and other bustard species.  He and Laurel bought a small farm just outside of Etosha National Park where he continued to do research and find undiscovered & uncatalogued species of wildlife.  TIm and Laurel moved back to Alaska in 2020 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
